Kashmir Floods- A Traumatic Situation

September started with heavy rains pouring out in Kashmir- famously called 'the heaven on earth'. Nobody would have imagined, even in the wildest of their dreams, what havoc this was bringing along. With the showers not showing any signs of an end, the people soon began to feel that everything was certainly not right. After decades, the state of Jammu and Kashmir was in a miserable condition with the main cities flooded like never before. It marked the start of the most devastating picture which was, in fact, completely unanticipated. Natural calamities strike without warning, maybe that's why they are called 'calamities'. Catastrophes.

There is always a sense of relief in situations like this until you get completely out of touch with those who are affected. That's when it gets really tough. The people stranded in those submerged houses would, no doubt, be fighting a battle which we can't even imagine. The news channels show pictures and video footages which are heart rending. The only thought of picturing a big house with water up to its top most floor is, in itself, traumatic. Imagining myself to be in their position actually sends shivers down my spine. Wonder how those poor souls would be feeling! There are so many people outside Kashmir who are trying to contact the ones stuck there. Such a feeling of helplessness is completely new to me. Three days and nights- and there is no response from the other side.

In such trying times, the only ray of hope is to pray to the Almighty for the end of this stressful period. A calamity may befall anyone, anywhere. This time, it is Kashmir. The things which are destined would take place, no matter what. Nonetheless, rescue operations are on. So many deaths, already. But yes, we do have a hope that- like everything else, this too would pass. There is always a brighter side of the story. Always.

Let's pray that everything gets well soon. Allah bless.
